Depay will don the iconic No.7 shirt at Old Trafford for the opening game against Tottenham Hotspur - but insists that he understands the pressures that will come.

United are hoping to launch a title charge after two seasons away from the top of the table, with Depay fully understanding that fans are expecting success. 

In an interview with BT Sport prior to the opening game, he said: "The pressure is big. The people expect trophies and titles which is normal for a big club. 

"If you see the history, they expect a lot of things and he (Van Gaal) told me that. 

Bandar Bola -  Van Gaal will be celebrating his 64th birthday at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and the experience of the Dutchman has inspired Depay to keep getting better.

When asked if he likes his strict approach, he said: "I think so, because he is also honest. He expect that you show your qualities on every day. 

"He makes you hungry. You want to improve every day on the training ground every day and show him what you have got. 

"I think that is good for the young players."
