The Anfield great returned to Merseyside to train with his old club during the MLS off-season, and was impressed with what he saw from the German.

Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers after an indifferent start to the season for Liverpool, and has endured a run of up-and-down results since taking over. 

He oversaw a 6-0 demolition of Aston Villa on Sunday, and Gerrard is hopeful he can be the man to bring the success the club has craved in recent years. 

"I'm a huge fan, I was a big fan at Dortmund and I think we're very lucky to have him at Liverpool," the LA Galaxy midfielder told CNN.

Gerrard has also spoken about his post-retirement plans, including the possibility of him entering coaching and possibly even management when he finally hangs up his boots.

He is doing his badges, but admits there is a lot of uncertainty about which path he will follow.

 

"As far as my coaching, management dreams and aspirations are concerned they're better parked until I retire," he added.

"I don't know if I'll be good enough and I don't know what roles are going come my way in the future."
